Aleppo throughout History

Life began in the city of Aleppo when the kingdom of the Amorites, known as Yamhad, built it about 7,000 years ago. Aleppo is considered the oldest inhabited city in history and its popularity continued until it became one of the most important cities of the Silk Road which stretches from China to Europe where its covered markets are considered to be the longest in the world.

The city of Aleppo has been inscribed on the World Heritage List; UNESCO has considered it an exceptional historic city. Aleppo is famous for its archaeological sites, including:

Aleppo Citadel

It is considered one of the largest citadels and among the most beautiful castles in the world. Its construction dates back to the first millennium BC, the Citadel is located on a hill in the city center, there are many buildings, churches, mosques, auditoriums, theaters and several doors, paths and corridors. It was the center of power for many kings and rulers.

Aleppo is also famous for:

Aleppo Soap: Using the name Aleppo soap is not for commercial purposes but rather illustrates the history of this product. Indeed, the link of this soap with the city of Aleppo dates back 4000 years since the manufacture of the first soap in the world. This industry has been passed down from generation to generation to the present day, and soap is still made the same way.

Aleppo laurel soap is considered a natural soap because it is made from natural materials, namely olive oil, laurel oil, alkaline substance and water.

The Great Omayyad Mosque

The Umayyads built it in the 8th century AD. The mosque was rebuilt due to its destruction after numerous successive invasions of the city. Its current architectural style dates back to the time of Noureddine Al Zanki, and includes a sanctuary for the prophet Zacharias, father of Saint John the Baptist.

Olive oil has long history

it has been used by man for a very long time for various purposes such as in food or for cosmetic purposes or by putting it on the hair and skin to obtain moisture and protection, it was also used to heal joints and soften muscles. In the making of Aleppo soap, the pressed olive oil imported from the western and northern regions of Aleppo is used.

Since the dawn of civilization, laurels were known in ancient Greek and Roman myths as a noble plant whose branches crowned the Tsars and heroes and the bay leaf was used in their food as an aroma. Laurel oil was known as a magic oil because of its great benefits. It keeps the skin fresh and makes the hair healthy. In addition to the benefits of laurel oil in Aleppo laurel soap, it gives a pleasant aroma and a green color. Laurel oil is extracted by the distillation method, it is the method used for many years by the villagers living in the mountainous coastal regions of Syria between Antioch and Kassab.
The saponification process of these oils depends on the alkaline substance that was previously extracted from the burning of the Anabasis plant scattered in the Syrian Badia. And over time, due to the large production, some soap factories use alkaline auxiliary products. The Aleppo soap industry depends on the olive harvest and its spinning, the soap cooking season begins in November and continues until March or April. Aleppo soap or laurel soap which Aleppo has been known for making for centuries has a cubic shape.
